I'm an icon, darling!
Our journey through the world of coffee we will start with the most classic type of coffee - espresso! Although not everybody likes its taste, it's an icon. The purest form of coffee.
You can write a book about an espresso, but I will try to sum up the most important information about this classic and iconic beverage.
In general, espresso is the name of the coffee, but also the method of making it. It's forcing out 25-30 ml of nearly boiling water (88-92℃) under pressure through ground coffee beans. It is brewed from the mixture of various types of coffee beans so that after the right preparation, we get a thick, dark brown foam on the surface of coffee which is called crema in Italian. This is mostly what gives espresso that specific, beautiful aroma.

Moreover, without espresso, we wouldn’t be able to prepare other types of coffees, because in most cases it is the base. So if you cannot imagine your day without the cup of tasty cappuccino, thank espresso for making possible for you to drink it.
The next important thing is the serving. Espresso is served in a small, heated and half filled cup (about 70 ml). In many cafés, we get a glass of water. It should be used to rinse your mouth before tasting the coffee so you can enjoy the deeper taste of espresso. What is more, we can drink espresso with sugar, cocoa, chocolate chips, vanilla, cinnamon etc.
The name of the coffee has nothing to do with the velocity of making it. It comes from the Italian adjective espressivo with means expressive, strong.
I think that it is enough for the beginning, but the subject of espresso and its history is way more profound, so we will certainly get back to it, but now we have to continue our journey. Next stop: cappuccino!
May your coffee taste great!
