This coffee is nothing extraordinary. It is double espresso with whipped cream which is a replacement of milk and sugar. Sometimes the chocolate or cinnamon sprinkle is added on the top.
The history of this type of coffee is quite interesting and worth knowing. It had been served in 1685 for the first time. After winning the battle of Vienna, the Polish king - John III Sobieski - was rewarding his soldiers, one of them asked for the bags filled with the coffee beans. Everybody thought that he wanted it as a nourishment for horses and camels, but Kulczycki (that is the surname of this soldier) decided to share this miracle beverage of coffee with others. So far, it was associated with the Turks whose reputation wasn't good in those days in Europe. Firstly, he was serving it without any additions, but the pope ordered to change it and make it available for the Catholics. Since then, Vienna coffee was served with whipped cream to disenchant this beverage "black as hell".
The sequent interesting fact is that the Austrians pay attention to suitable surrounding for drinking and enjoying your coffee. Just take a look at the cafes in the center of the city. There are many and every single of them make you go back in time.

These are photos from the Cafe Central in Vienna which I visited during my stay in Vienna. The interior is even more stunning in real life. In the late 19th century, it was a meeting place of the Viennese intellectual scene.
The photos cannot reflect the true beauty of this place. The coffee is 2 times more tasty in such an interior. It is one of the must-visit places in Vienna.
May your coffee taste great!
